100% Puzzle Satisfaction – The Gob Stopper

Hi and welcome to another episode of Mr puzzle today, with this little but heavy, I tell you this thing is really heavy puzzle today named The GOP stopper made and designed by the two brass monkeys, Steve Nichols and Ali Morris in the UK, and what should I Say about this puzzle, this thing is just beautiful right. So if you look at this puzzle, you immediately will notice a nice surface finish. So this is entirely made out of brass. It’S something which is different than their usual puzzles. So it’s it looks slightly tarnished, but actually it’s not because it’s achieved by a tumbling process that they actually wanted to do for deburring the parts.

But then it came out with this nice surface finish, which was a great addition from my point of view. By the way, when this puzzle is made, it’s actually not round but then later turned into this spherical shape on a lathe, I’m not sure if it’s a bird puzzle or a coordinate motion puzzle by the way, but definitely something very beautiful. I mean look at this. This looks just insane before I start with this puzzle. I would also like to show you something else, because I also recently got a very cool fidget toy.

It’S called the helico. The idea is basically very simple. You just have two cylinders with two magnets inside that snap, together and on the outside. There is a 3D printed gear and you can just use these two pieces spin them around, even throw them. They will always stick in place because the magnets are quite strong and something very satisfying coming with it and what’s also interesting, is the kind of gear they choose, maybe some off topic.

This is a so-called herringbone gear. Everyone knows these normal gears with the straight tooth. They are very efficient, but they have also some disadvantages because they are loud yeah, and this is many cost, because there’s mainly one of the teeth in contact at the time. Another type of gears are the so-called helical gears. They have angle twos like this side over here, for example, and Advantage is they are running much smoother than gears with straight tooth, but have the disadvantage that they deals too, since they are in contact at a certain angle, creating a side thrust, so the gears always Want to move in One Direction: yeah and this year the herringbone gears they compensate for that, so they have an helical gear over here and a helical gear over there and they compensate the thigh thrust of each other due to the different angles.

So this is running smooth and it’s running without any sight thrust, of course also coming with some disadvantage, they are much more difficult to manufacture, as the other two just to give you some background here about the gears of this fidget toy may be interesting to you. If, yes, let me know in the comments, but now let’s come back here to the gov stopper and after spoiler brick, you can see my first time ever attempt to take it apart and bring it back together. Again, oh look at this beauty. Just I mean it’s just just amazing, just amazing quality, let’s take it apart, I would assume you could. Maybe maybe you need to pull out one piece here if it’s a burp puzzle, maybe let’s first try to pull it apart somehow, and to do so, I have to get the right pieces together.

Oh and here I got them okay, so I will carefully take it apart. Okay, so three at a time and okay mix them to get the Ultimate Puzzle Challenge, of course, and now, let’s see what do we have here? It seems we have three different types of Parts: uh wait. No, we have. We have four different parts, so we got three three three from here.

They look nearly the same, but from here they are different and I can tell you I’m definitely not good at this type of puzzle definitely not be. I think the pieces were like like this. This orientation, you know [, Music ] fits very well. This is some combination, he makes maybe sense and then maybe put over here. This is definitely more tricky than I thought again with these two pieces nah.

This makes no sense. I think it’s it’s. I need to sort them again. What if I put one of those in like so yes, this looks, this looks cool. This doesn’t look too bad, yes, and I have more than enough space to place others along here.

Ah, I think I got the point. You see this whoa, I’m pretty sure this is right here. Maybe it’s not, but I’m I’m, I think so, and how to stabilize this um. You see this. This could be right.

Can I build another one? No, I don’t think so. Huh, let me see. No. This seems not to be the right way, um.

What I will try to do now is, I will try to assemble all parts except the last three, and I think the last three must be some of these three times three combinations I made. I can see this. I can you see they always look the same. This is basically the same shape like on another puzzle. I have so like this classic bamboo wood and soccer ball puzzle.

I could add now some pieces, maybe here no, you could add some of those here, maybe like so yes, oh you see this. This fits perfectly. This looks better and he oh. This must be right. This must be right.

Please let us be right. Another one here and where’s, the last one, and now I got finally also the last one like here so now, let’s see if I can get the other ones in there. If I can, this is the solution. I’M pretty sure I’m Gon na Leave This here on the ground. It falls apart immediately.

Let’S see, how can I put this like so no come on? Let it please fit. No. This must be the right one like here like here. Yes, yes, this must be right or imagine if I got this finally back together, another last one and then it will be probably stable.

Okay, this in okay, okay, now how to get in those I mean I can try or I will try to get them also in this triangular shape. No here here we go here. We go got it. I got it. You see this.

This can definitely fit inside hold this in a stable position. I mean you see this. Oh yes like this. Maybe, oh God come on – please oh yeah whoo. Finally, man what a puzzle I it was very tricky for me to understand.

I mean. Maybe I had the wrong approach great puzzle, absolutely great design. I will definitely do this again, Ali Steve, another great design and to all others of you. I hope you liked this episode. I hope you liked this review.
