Lock Bumping… Possibly The Easiest Way In!

This is the Lock Picking Lawyer and I was recently responding to an email from a viewer about lock bumping and I realized it’s. A relatively basic low-scale, lock defeat technique that I have never seen on this channel. Lock bumping uses a specially cut bump key, which simultaneously strikes each of the key pins in the lock. When you strike those key pins, it causes the driver pin to jump up and for an Ever So brief moment that plug can spin freely executing the attack is very simple. All you need is a bump key and something to hit it with, though using a specially designed, bump hammer and some rebound Rings will help the process go much faster by the way I do sell all of this over on Covert instruments.

So let me show you how this works. I took one of my CI practice locks and put six pins in it, so I’m going to need my sc4 bump key. I’M going to put one of these rebound rings on it. They do two things.

First, they stop. The key from striking the face of the lock too hard, thus causing damage, and second they allow you to bump very quickly. Now you will need to put a little bit of tension on the K. Most people, I know, use their fingers and then hit the key. Like so, I have hit my fingers with the hammer far too many times to do that as a general practice, so I usually put a small tension wrench in the bow of the key and apply a very slight amount of tension.

Okay, let’s give it a try. There we go: let’s try that one more time, so you can see it was not a fluke. You’ll notice on the rebound ring, there’s a small cut in it. Thus, between bumps I like to rotate the rebound ring just a little bit, these Rings should be considered a consumable in the bumping process and lose my tension. Okay, folks, if you were shocked at how easy that is you’re, probably not alone, lock makers have implemented.

Some defenses like varied power, Springs and varied pin rest positions, but those features are relatively uncommon. Security pins can also help, but to a much lesser degree. In any case, that’s all I have for you today if you do have any questions or comments about this, please put them below if you like this video and would like to see more like it please subscribe and as always have a nice day. Thank you.
