In today’s lock review, we examine FJM’s high-security version of their disc padlock. While the company also offers a combination and flat key version, this particular lock features the high-security tubular key. However, as we will see, the term “high-security” may be somewhat misleading.

The lock’s core differs from the most common tubular design, as it lacks a tensioning notch at the 12 o’clock position in the central circle. To pick the lock, the tensioning bar must first be removed from a covert instruments tubular lock pick.

Once the tensioning bar is removed, the lock pick can be inserted into the keyway, tensioned, and jiggled. Surprisingly, this process only needs to be repeated a few times before the lock opens. To confirm that this was not a fluke, the tubular pick was reset and the lock was picked again, opening just as quickly.

In conclusion, FJM’s tubular disc padlock may not live up to its high-security label, as it can be opened rather easily and quickly with a tubular lock pick. Nonetheless, the lock may still provide some level of security for those who are not well-versed in lock picking techniques.
