At least, that’s what they claim.

The World’s Most Difficult 3D Jigsaw Puzzle claims to be the ultimate test for puzzle enthusiasts. Released in 1992, the concept behind these puzzles is that they are made up of three separate jigsaw puzzles stacked on top of each other, creating a complete image when assembled. Each puzzle layer has a portion of the image, while the rest of the pieces are transparent to allow for visibility of the layers below.

The puzzle comes pre-assembled in its packaging, which also doubles as a hanging picture frame when completed. It contains 540 plastic pieces, divided into three 180-piece puzzles. To increase the challenge, the instructions suggest scrambling all the pieces before attempting to solve the layers.

However, the puzzle is not without its flaws. One of the most noticeable design issues is the difficulty in reading the buttons on the keypad, especially for taller individuals. Additionally, the puzzle pieces themselves are made from a thin, soft plastic, prone to sticking together and requiring careful separation.

Once the pieces are separated, the solving process can begin. Starting with the edges, the puzzle features standard piece shapes, making it easier to work on the sections. However, due to the clear connector pieces, false fits may occur, causing frustration during the process.

The puzzle’s more intricate sections, such as the Escher men, provide an interesting and relatively simpler aspect to work on. The remaining geometric shapes in white, black, or striped textures pose the most significant challenge, with the potential need to refer to the full image provided in the instructions or past eBay listings for guidance.

Despite its flaws and frustrations, the World’s Most Difficult 3D Jigsaw Puzzle offers an intriguing challenge for puzzle enthusiasts who are up for a unique and demanding experience. As with any puzzle, patience and persistence are key to success.
