Laser Relay

How to play

Light every receiver (the diamonds) at the same time. The beam runs straight from the emitter, a mirror turns it 90 degrees, a wall stops it, and it carries on through a receiver. A ringed tile turns when you tap it: it flips between / and \. Plain tiles are locked.

A dashed tile is a splitter: the beam goes straight on and a second beam turns sideways (drawn dashed). Beams can cross. Fewer taps earns a better medal, and a tap that turns a tile back still counts. Restart puts the board back to the start, but your taps and time keep counting. Tap only, no dragging.

Frequently asked questions

How do you play Laser Relay?
A beam fires from the emitter and runs straight through empty squares. Mirrors turn it 90 degrees, walls stop it, and receivers light up when a beam reaches them (the beam carries on through). Tap a tile with a ring to flip it between the two mirror directions. Light every receiver at the same time.
What is a splitter?
A splitter is a half-silvered diagonal tile, drawn dashed. The beam passes straight through it and a second beam turns 90 degrees off it. Beams can cross each other without any effect.
How are medals decided?
By taps against par, the fewest taps that can light every receiver, worked out exactly for each day's puzzle. Gold is par, silver is up to a little over twice par, bronze is any solve. A tap that turns a tile back still counts.
Is today's puzzle the same for everyone?
Yes. It is generated from the calendar date (US Eastern) and is always solvable. Monday and Tuesday use a 6×6 board, Wednesday and Thursday 7×7, Friday to Sunday 8×8, with more tiles and splitters later in the week. Open a past day with ?d=YYYY-MM-DD.
