About this puzzle

A mountain vista is a view you earn with elevation: a stand on a ridge, a pass, or a valley mouth where the eye can run across multiple peaks instead of staring at one tree. Relief — the height difference between valley floor and summit — is what makes the scene feel like mountains rather than hills. Young ranges (Himalaya, Andes, Southern Alps of New Zealand, much of the Caucasus) are sharp because uplift still outruns erosion. Older ranges (Appalachians, Scottish Highlands) are rounded because ice and rivers have had longer to grind.
