Kirkjufell Mountain, Iceland

Kirkjufell stands on the north coast of Iceland's Snæfellsnes peninsula, just outside the fishing town of Grundarfjörður. Its Icelandic name means "Church Mountain," and at 463 meters it rises sharply from the surrounding grassland in a distinctive stepped cone that has made it one of the country's most recognizable landmarks.

The mountain's layered flanks, visible as banded ridges running down its slopes, are the eroded remains of basalt and tuff laid down by repeated volcanic activity and later shaped by glacial ice. It is often described as the most photographed mountain in Iceland, drawing visitors to the peninsula's coastal ring road for views across the water and surrounding farmland. A short walk away, the small waterfall Kirkjufellsfoss is a popular spot for framing the peak in the same shot.

Kirkjufell also appeared on screen as the "arrowhead mountain" in Game of Thrones seasons 6 and 7. In this puzzle, the mountain's sharp, stepped silhouette against open sky gives strong, high-contrast edges to sort first, while the more uniform grassland in the foreground makes a steadier middle section to fill in.
