Creative Mechanism Needs Creative Picking…

The Lock Picking Lawyer recently explored a unique Chinese chain lock that features an inventive locking mechanism that combines elements of wafer locks, dimple locks, and reverse sidebar locks. The key for this lock has two blades, and the bolt retracts automatically upon insertion, without requiring the key to be turned. This interesting design relies on internal springs, which can pose challenges for lock picking.

However, it’s important to note that weather exposure and corrosion can render this mechanism ineffective over time, as the lock may become stiff and difficult to operate without the option to turn the key harder.

To pick the lock, the Lock Picking Lawyer utilized a 50,000 thick Turner from the Genesis set and a padlock bypass driver from his Covert Companion. By applying pressure to the bolt and methodically lifting the sliders, he was able to open the lock.

Although the unique mechanism can be challenging for those unfamiliar with it, a bit of knowledge and creativity can go a long way in defeating this lock.
