The Hanayama Tube – Solved and Explained in Detail!

Welcome to another episode where we explore the fascinating world of Hanayama puzzles. Today, we’re focusing on the Cast Tube, designed by Vesa Timonen, a renowned puzzle designer from Finland. Rated at a difficulty level of 5 out of 6, the Cast Tube consists of three parts that need to be separated and reassembled.

In this article, we’ll take a closer look at the Cast Tube and provide a detailed solution for this intriguing puzzle. To solve it, follow these steps:

  1. Slide the two inner parts back and forth within the outer sleeve. There are two points where you can do this, either in the starting position or 180 degrees twisted.
  2. When the inner parts slide freely, hold the puzzle in a horizontal position.
  3. Give the puzzle a slight shake to separate the inner pieces and slide them out of the outer sleeve.

The reason this solution works is because of the flattened areas on the inner parts and the ribs inside the outer sleeve. When the puzzle is positioned correctly, the inner pieces can slide and twist out of the sleeve easily. To reassemble the puzzle, simply insert the inner pieces at the entrance of the sleeve’s threads and rotate them back into place.

Despite its high difficulty rating, many puzzle enthusiasts find the Cast Tube more accessible than expected, with some suggesting it’s closer to a 3 out of 6 in difficulty. Nevertheless, the Cast Tube remains an intriguing and enjoyable challenge for puzzle lovers.
